Securing the £400,000 project by Robert Woodhead was for Nottinghamshire County Council and involved a new build of a children’s centre on the Abbey Road primary school site using TEK structural insulated panels (SIPs) designed, supplied for optimum insulation, air tightness and reduced of on site waste and construction time.

Measures which undoubtedly helped us achieve the 36.5 Considerate Constructor’s score included:

  • All neighbours in the vicinity were contacted prior and during construction and signs were clearly erected providing contact information
  • Gate signs were erected clearly stating delivery times
  • Site access was denied from 08:00-09:00am and 3:00-4:00pm when the school was busy with children and parents
  • Personal Protective Equipment and alternative WC facilities were provided for all visitors
  • All supervisors recently undertook NVQ Level 3 training courses in construction site supervision.

Sharon Rookes, Head Teacher at Abbey Road Primary School comments on ourYouTube video, “Having contractors on site is always tricky, lots of young children, 420 plus children, as young as four some of them, but it’s been brilliant, absolutely, absolutely great.”

Further comments related to this project included:

“We’ve been delighted by the whole project team. Not only were they professional, they were also very clear in their communications, extremely patient and they made the project both enjoyable and a success. We’re now using the building and the children’s centre staff, partners, children and families are all very impressed with the look of the build and the facilities on offer.”

Tracey Coull, Senior Children’s Centre Coordinator for Rushcliffe

“The Abbey Road children’s centre project provided challenges throughout the design and construction phase. However, the great working relationship between all parties involved in the project ensured that all challenges met were resolved and the design, complimented by the surrounding environment, was appreciated by all involved. The children’s centre now provides a practical learning environment for the future generation of West Bridgford and we look forward to working with Robert Woodhead Ltd again in the future.”
