Woodhead Group announce Charity of the Year 2017

For 2017 Woodhead are proud to announce that they will be supporting ‘Mind’ as the Charity of the Year.

Mind is the leading mental health charity in England and Wales. They provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problems. They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. We won’t give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect.

1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem in any one year. That’s every family, every workplace and every friendship circle.  It’s approximately 14 million people in the UK.

On average, in the UK, 17 people take their own lives each day.

  • Suicide is the leading cause of death for people aged between 20 and 34 years.
  • The economic and societal costs of mental health problems to the economy in England are estimated to be at least £105bn a year.
  • By 2020, depression will be the second leading cause of health problems in the world.

The construction industry needs to pay far more attention to mental health, as suicide kills six times as many workers in the sector as falls from heights, according to Samaritans.

Robert Woodhead Ltd and Mind in partnership

Together, we can change the lives of vulnerable people and improve the services and support they receive. As a charity, we are small enough for our partnership to make a tangible difference and large enough for you to make an impact.

£20,000 could fund 1,000 people experiencing mental health problems to take part in a peer support session.

£10,000 could help us offer information and advice to over 1,300 people through the Mind Infoline, enabling them to take the first step towards better managing their mental health.

£5,000 could help to fund a new project reaching 25 people, delivering direct, life changing support within the community. Previous projects have included workshops with young people at risk of gang affiliation and their parents or carers.
