We are pleased to announce that the Hicks Lodge Cycle Centre project for the Forestry Commission has been shortlisted for an EMCBE Environmental Sustainability Award. This follows success in the same category in 2009 and 2010.
The exempar timber frame construction provides cycle hire facilities, kitchen and café for visitors, meeting room, access toilets and showers with 2 bedroom flat on upper floor. Set in the National Forest the project is designed to BREEAM Excellent standard. The scheme incorporates a range of green technologies and materials including an airtight timber frame, timber cladding, Photo voltaics, rainwater harvesting, sustainable drainage and biomass boiler system achieving air test results of 4.3m3/ (h.m2). Only 1 site skip was used with less than 3% of waste going to landfill.
